If you are interested in joining Grottoes United Methodist Church, there are several things to consider:
1) have you been baptized in a Christian Church before, as an infant/ child or as an adult?
We believe that once you are baptized in Christian baptism you have already been accepted into God's family. We do not believe it is necessary to be baptized again to join the membership of the United Methodist church.
If you have not been baptized and would like to recieve the sacrament of baptism, please set up a time to talk with the pastor about being baptized.
2) Are you transferring your membership from another Christian denomination or another United Methodist Church?
We accept membership transfers from other Christian churches. Just ask the pastor to request a membership transfer from your previous church. Once the pastoral care is transferred between the churches, you will be brought into the church as a member during a worship service.
If you have never been a member of a church before, and you are considering joining a church for the first time, contact the pastor to set up a time to meet and discuss membership.
Becoming a member of a church means that you are ready to make a long term commitment to Jesus Christ as a faithful disciple, dedicated to learning and growing as a Christian. Being a disciple means life-long growing and learning in the ways of Jesus Christ.
Church membership also meas that you are committed to faithfully supporting the church through your prayers, your participation and presence in its ministries, with your service and sharing of your skills, talents and gifts.
If you like worshiping with us and being a part of the ministries and spiritual growth opportunities but are not ready to take your spiritual commitment to the next level, then you are still welcome to participate with in the life of the church. When one commits to joining the Church, it becomes a spiritual comitment that comes from an outpouring of one's love for Jesus Christ and a desire to serve Jesus Christ at a deeper level.
Entering into baptism and becoming a member of a church is likened as to becoming married to Christ. It is a Covenant of love and devotion for God. It is a level of commitment that we long for and desire in our hearts.
